R.I.P. Benjamin Curtis (Secret Machines, School of Seven Bells)
Comments (0) | Monday, December 30, 2013
The music industry has lost another true visionary in Benjamin Curtis who lost his battle with cancer yesterday. He was 35 years old. Benjamin Curtis was the guitar player and background vocalist for one of our favorite bands, Secret Machines. He went on to be the producer and guitarists for School of Seven Bells. Prior to Secret Machines he was in other bands, always making music.
We've always had the utmost respect for him and his music. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his brother Brandon and all of his friends and loved ones. He will be greatly missed but we'll continue to appreciate the music he has given us.

Everest Announce New Album and New Song
Comments (0) | Tuesday, April 24, 2012
I heard this song for the first time last summer when they opened one of their shows with it. I was blown away immediately because it was so heavy and loud as hell. After the show I asked the band, "What was that song you opened with about the Rapture?" They responded, "Rapture". Now having heard the studio version, its the rocker I remember.
Everest are gearing up to release their third album, Ownerless. Due out on June 26 via ATO.
I reviewed their last album, On Approach, and it was damn near perfect. And "Let Go" was our 2010 song of the year. That statement is not to be taken lightly.
One of my favorite things about Everest is their ability to mix things up. They draw from a slew of influences and it shows through the variety of songs on their albums. Let's hope Ownerless is full of rockers, sweet ballads, and anthems that we all love.

Check out Harriet, one of our bands to watch in 2012. Harriet is the brainchild of Alex Casnoff and Tell the Right Story is their debut EP.
Head over to their website to download. Did I mention it's free!
Harriet is Alex Casnoff (vocals, piano, guitar), Aaron Folb (bass), Henry Kwapis (drums), and Adam Gunther (guitar). Tell the Right Story was produced by Sean O' Brien and was recorded in Los Angeles and Sacramento.
Casnoff formerly of Dawes left the band and was replaced with their original keyboardist. You can hear Casnoff's fine keyboard work on our 2011 album of the year, Dawes- Nothing is Wrong.

Delta Spirit Hit the Road Again
Comments (0) | Monday, January 9, 2012
The new album is set to be released March 13th of this year.
On the band's blog, singer Matt Vasquez explains, "We found the sound that we've been looking for, that we've been growing into, and as soon as we hit on it, we ran with it. That's why it's a self-titled record, so we could connect our identity with what we think Delta Spirit is."
This past summer, Delta Spirit played to a sold-out crowd at Lincoln Hall for a Lollapalooza pre-show.

Top 5 Albums of 2011
Comments (0) | Thursday, December 29, 2011
Bottom line here is that the album title is true, nothing is wrong. Every song on the album is good, 11 memorable songs that complete a perfect record.
I am a total sucker for music that makes me dance. Catchy beats and clever lyrics, talk about a home run! Foster the People have made quite a name for themselves with this debut that is infectious from start to finish. Just their first single, "Pumped Up Kicks" alone has reaped in a cornucopia of award nominations, including Grammy's for Best Duo/Group Performance and Best Alternative Album! - Pam
Honorable Mention:The Kills- Blood Pressures
Coming right off the heels of the Dead Weather's second tour, singer Alison Mosshart and guitarist Jamie Hince kick back with their fourth studio album. And they picked right up where they left off. This album is the perfect continuing evolution of the duo. It's spooky. It's smoky. It's sexy!

Next Thursday is Thanksgiving. Most likely you will be filled with a great feast of excellent food. Ironically enough that Thanksgiving feast won't include Thursday Casserole, as we won't be on the air. BUT... this week we will get you prepared for Thanksgiving with a feast of our own.
As you know Record Store Day is having some exclusives for Black Friday. And let me be the first to tell you they are damn good! Check em out yourself. So we will be playing our favorite selections from the Black Friday Record Store Day exclusives.
But that's not all! On that note, Chef Jeff and Chef Pam will be debating the future of physical music. And we'd love to hear from you as well. Give us your thoughts or opinions on the topic. Feel free to call us at WXAV 773-298-3386 or email us at Thursdaycasserole@gmail.com.
But there's more! Thanks to WXAV we also have an exclusive interview with a little band you might have heard of called Coldplay!

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club- "Shadow on the Run"
Comments (0) | Tuesday, September 6, 2011
I don't know what I think about music made for video game soundtracks but frankly at the end of the day it is music. And in this case brand new music from Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and it is awesome. You can hear the track here.
BRMC bassist Robert Been tells Rolling Stone, "The developers of the game contacted us to see if we were interested in the project. We've never worked with video game developers before and figured it would be a different kind of challenge."
The soundtrack, Batman: Arkham City, also features the likes of the Duke Spirit and the Raveonettes.
